Day 1 – My Epic Journey Begins

After what can only be described as a whirlwind few weeks, I am finally setting out on my epic journey, from my hometown Arklow, Co.Wicklow. After getting up, having breakfast, feeding my pets for the last time (for at least 4 months) and double checking my bags for the uptime time, I make my way to the RNLI Station in Arklow which is my starting point.

Overwhelmed by the support from both the local people, friends, family and my running family who have come down to support me,  I set about trying to speak to as many people as possible before I head off. My running family have decided to run along with me, some as far as Brittas Bay (Wicklow), others all the way to the 1st stop on this journey Greystones, Co. Wicklow.

Before making my way to Greystones, we made a little bit of a detour and went down to visit the Wicklow RNLI station. We received an absolutely lovely reception.

Wicklow

So far I couldn’t have asked for better weather for Day 1, which definitely had a part to play in the different people who came out and ran with me some of the way.

Greystones

What I have realised on only Day 1 of my journey is that the support from people you have never met before is just unreal. The icing on the cake was the Coastguard escort which we received coming into Greystones, we felt like celebrities.

So with 31.4 miles done today, its time for me to sign off, food and rest are on my mind now 🙂 Thanks to Theresa and Joe Kinane for putting me up tonight.

Thanks again for a fantastic Day 1, looking forward to Day 2.
