Day 8: Newcastle – Portaferry

View from where she starts

I was up bright and early and set off from Newcastle at 9am, the view on my way out was amazing.

My next destination is Portaferry, which means I will need to get a ferry from Strangford to Portaferry. My 1st 10 miles were really good today, then I met the open sea and the wind was unreal, the next 12 miles were really tough and really had to slow down and take my time as I was running out of steam.

I stopped in Ardglas for a cup of tea, to rest my bones and take shelter. From here its about another 8 miles to Strangford. While having my rest, I also done an interview with East Coast Radio and Declan Meehan.

One of my team called me when I was making my way to the Ferry and I mentioned that my feet were in bits, the new runners were causing me trouble and I could feel the blisters forming :(.

By the time I got off the ferry Celia Spouncer had made it to the chemist and had got me a selection of plasters which were sure to fix my weary and sore feet.

Portaferry RNLI made me feel so welcome and also had an amazing fish supper for me. Today was a really touch day but I made it and I’m feeling extremely proud. Thanks to Simon for putting me up tonight can’t wait to close my eyes and get some well deserved rest.

Departed Newcastle RNLI @ 9am, Arrived Portaferry RNLI @ 5.30pm
